A Partnership Strategy
In the News!In co-operation with Parks Canada, the Alexander Mackenzie Voyageur Route Association has released a discussion document which provides for a richer understanding of the Route and which also presents some strategies for community involvement. Get the Strategy!
Through the support of Transport Canada, we have produced a new full-colour map and brochure for national distribution. This spectacular brochure presents Mackenzie's original map with a modern overlay of highways and communities. On the flip-side you will find descriptions of many of the major attractions and regions from Sea-to-Sea as well as contact information for modern-day adventurers. Get the Brochure!
The main stakeholders in the Alexander Mackenzie Voyageur Route are the thousands of Canadians who live along its waterways. The results of a nation-wide community survey conducted in 1995 revealed that the Route holds economic and heritage importance to many Canadian residents. Respondents showed a strong interest in preservation and promotion of the Route with particular interest in Tourism and Recreation development.
Long Term PlansFinally, based on the Partnership Discussion Document, AMVRA directors have established a specific three-year, two million dollar ($2M) financial strategy for AMVR development. The Nature Conservancy of Canada, who helped establish the Alexander Mackenzie Heritage Trail in British Columbia so long ago, has proposed a half-million dollar ($0.5M) partnership incentive, providing we can find the remaining one and one-half million dollars ($1.5M) through government and/or other partners. Half of the total two million dollars ($2M) would be drawn on by AMVRA as a managed operating fund. The other half would go to five specific uses:
- To help small communities en route to develop their own related heritage and tourism projects;
To run a national publicity campaign to inform Canada and the world about the AMVR; To provide a wide range of media support to en route educational institutions; To establish a detailed inventory of heritage attractions along the 8,600 kilometre route; To develop a network of en route AMVR supporters through new AMVRA Chapters and a membership drive.
